We are seeking an experienced and motivated 50/50 Sharemilker to operate Skylark Farm near the beach in Pukehina. The Sharemilker will take full responsibility of day-to-day dairy operations, working in partnership with the farm owner’s family and farm consultant to achieve sustainable, profitable production. This role requires proven dairy farming capability, strong financial and business management skills, and a commitment to high standards in animal welfare, staff leadership, and farm compliance. We seek a happy person who loves cows, grass and people, and wishes to progress further in the dairy industry. The farm totals 325 hectares with all replacement heifers grazed on farm. Production totalled 187,648 kg MS in 2023/24, 194,329 kg MS in 2024/25 and is on track for 190,000 kg MS in 2025/26 from 600 cows on a low input OAD system. Availability of neighbouring kiwifruit land increased the effective grazing area to approximately 350 hectares during these seasons. An opportunity is available for an experienced operator to enter into a 50/50 sharemilking agreement on a well-performing, low-input dairy farm located 25 minutes south-east of Whakatāne and 5 minutes from Waimana. The current sharemilker is moving on after their third season, following a previous sharemilker who was in place for nine seasons. The milking platform comprises approx. 105 effective hectares, with a lease currently in place for an adjoining 20 hectares that can also be milked off. Contour is 79 ha flat (incl. lease block), 38 ha rolling and 8 ha steep. Historically, the farm has wintered 270–280 cows and produced approximately 100,000 kg MS. Chicory has recently been incorporated into the system to improve summer resilience. All feed is grown and harvested on farm, with no imported supplements. The shed is an 18 aside herringbone, with modern chilling installed. The successful applicant will have a proven record of performance, strong pasture management, along with excellent reporting and communication skills.
