We are looking for a 2IC who is reliable and self-motivated to work alongside our Farm Manager and staff, to help lead our high–performing dairy farm. Our operation is a top performer in financial results, productivity, efficiency and environmental stewardship. We run a well-proven, successful farm system with clear expectations and strong support. The farm is a flat, well developed and tidy farm with very good housing and sheds. As 2 IC, you will work closely with the Farm Manager in daily operations and need to be capable of managing the farm during the Managers absence. The role suits someone ready to take on more responsibility, take the next step or, an experienced manager looking to take a step back while remaining part of a strong productive team. The position allows you to take on excellent learning opportunities and gain experience in all aspects of running a dairy unit. Your day-to-day focus will include: - Helping set the daily plan and keeping routines sharp in the dairy, yard and across the farm. - Milking, identifying and treating animal health problems. - Supporting safe work practices, tidy systems, and clear communication on-farm including Onside recording. - Using technology and data to support good decisions, including Protrack, Sensehub and Herd-i. - Supporting irrigation routines and checks to keep performance consistent through the season. - Staying on top of key records and farm administration, including Minda entries where required. Tarngate is a new farm operation within BEL Group’s major development programme. This spring-calving, pasture-first farm will milk 1,000 cows across 232ha effective, with a new 60-bale rotary (under construction), full irrigation, and modern in-shed tech including in-shed feeding, auto teat spray, walk-over weigh and auto drafting. Set on a flat, well-laid-out property, Tarngate is a great opportunity for a capable Assistant Farm Manager who enjoys structure, technology, and strong pasture-based systems — and who can help set the daily rhythm and standards as the farm embeds into its long-term operating model. Located around 15 minutes from Waipukurau and close to schools and local amenities, Tarngate includes a large on-farm family home that will be refurbished. The opportunity This is a hands-on Assistant Farm Manager role working closely with the Farm Manager to keep the farm running cleanly and consistently, while building your leadership capability in a high-spec, pasture-first system. You’ll be trusted to step up and lead the team when the Farm Manager is away, keeping daily priorities on track and helping deliver on-farm targets. Day to day, your focus will include: - Leading by example on safe work practices, including raising and recording hazards/incidents in FarmIQ and supporting inductions when needed. - Driving disciplined pasture and feed execution, keeping dairy routines efficient, and maintaining strong standards of farm presentation and asset care. - Owning irrigation execution and checks, with a clear plan in place during manager absences. - Keeping on top of key records and compliance, including NAIT movements and timely entries into MINDA, and supporting environmental and effluent requirements. - Being a calm, practical point of leadership for the team and escalating issues early when needed. To succeed, you’ll bring a solid farming foundation, a strong attitude, and the confidence to lead when required. Ideally you’ll have at least four years’ dairy farming experience, be comfortable using farm systems and tech, and be keen to keep developing your pasture management and people leadership skills.

We are on the search for a motivated and hardworking individual looking to join our enthusiastic and supportive team of four. A picturesque 341ha (290ha effective) rolling farm located in Patoka, Hawkes Bay. Milking 845 cows through a modern 50-bale rotary with in-shed feeding, auto cup removers, Protrack and a flood wash. There is a 450-cow feed pad, well maintained laneways, and a large 12-bay calf shed, among other infrastructures. Duties include but are not limited to; pasture allocation and management, milking, dairy shed hygiene, feeding, animal health, effluent, weed control and tractor work. Our girls have Halter Collars! Our current 2IC is leaving at the end of the season to take the next step and manage their own farm. **Job Description** Position: 2IC / Assistant Farm Manager Purpose of position: To work alongside the farm owners, assisting with the day-to-day management and seasonal requirements associated with the successful running of a 400-cow dairy operation, 40 aside herringbone with ACR’s and in shed feeder. The farm size is 144 HA. The shed is run as a 1 person shed with walkover teat sprayer. **What we are looking for:** We are looking for someone to come join the team who is: - Reliable - Who can communicate - Honest - Committed - With a Positive can do attitude - Show initiative - Able to work independently or as part of a team **Position duties:** - Herd management - Assist in all areas including calving, milking, feeding, animal health, milk quality, mating, winter feeding and management and record keeping in line with Best on Farm Practice guidelines. - Pasture management – Assisting with weekly pasture monitoring and recording, preparation of feed wedges and grazing rotation, identification of surplus/deficit feed situations, allocation of daily feed including supplement. - General duties – Ability to take control of all aspects of the farms running in the absence of farm owners. Maintain all fences, troughs and tracks in good repair. Ensuring farm and buildings are free of rubbish and tidy at all times. Controlling of thistles and weeds. Maintain high standard of cow shed tidiness and hygiene. Following FEP guidelines and requirements. Maintaining plant and vehicles to a high standard including servicing requirements, identification and notification of any break downs and regular cleaning. Consistently maintain house and surroundings to a clean and tidy standard, lawns and gardens to be tended to on a regular basis. Any other tasks set by farm owners accepted to be part of a fully irrigated, high producing dairy operation. Supervision and training of relief staff when required. **Roster:** 6/1 in August and 5/2 for the rest of the season **Hours of work:** 50 per week - 01 June – 30 July: 8.30am – 4.30pm. 7am when milking. - 01 Aug – 30 Sept: 4.30am start – 5pm finish - 01 Oct – 31 May: 4.30am start – 5pm finish **Meal breaks:** Breakfast and Lunch – One hour from time leaving work and back ready for work in the hour. **Accommodation:** Tidy modern 3 bedroom house available.
