We are looking for a 2IC who is reliable and self-motivated to work alongside our Farm Manager and staff, to help lead our high–performing dairy farm. Our operation is a top performer in financial results, productivity, efficiency and environmental stewardship. We run a well-proven, successful farm system with clear expectations and strong support. The farm is a flat, well developed and tidy farm with very good housing and sheds. As 2 IC, you will work closely with the Farm Manager in daily operations and need to be capable of managing the farm during the Managers absence. The role suits someone ready to take on more responsibility, take the next step or, an experienced manager looking to take a step back while remaining part of a strong productive team. The position allows you to take on excellent learning opportunities and gain experience in all aspects of running a dairy unit. To succeed, you’ll bring a solid farming foundation, a strong attitude, and the confidence to lead when required. **Job Description** Position: 2IC / Assistant Farm Manager Purpose of position: To work alongside the farm owners, assisting with the day-to-day management and seasonal requirements associated with the successful running of a 400-cow dairy operation, 40 aside herringbone with ACR’s and in shed feeder. The farm size is 144 HA. The shed is run as a 1 person shed with walkover teat sprayer. **What we are looking for:** We are looking for someone to come join the team who is: - Reliable - Who can communicate - Honest - Committed - With a Positive can do attitude - Show initiative - Able to work independently or as part of a team **Position duties:** - Herd management - Assist in all areas including calving, milking, feeding, animal health, milk quality, mating, winter feeding and management and record keeping in line with Best on Farm Practice guidelines. - Pasture management – Assisting with weekly pasture monitoring and recording, preparation of feed wedges and grazing rotation, identification of surplus/deficit feed situations, allocation of daily feed including supplement. - General duties – Ability to take control of all aspects of the farms running in the absence of farm owners. Maintain all fences, troughs and tracks in good repair. Ensuring farm and buildings are free of rubbish and tidy at all times. Controlling of thistles and weeds. Maintain high standard of cow shed tidiness and hygiene. Following FEP guidelines and requirements. Maintaining plant and vehicles to a high standard including servicing requirements, identification and notification of any break downs and regular cleaning. Consistently maintain house and surroundings to a clean and tidy standard, lawns and gardens to be tended to on a regular basis. Any other tasks set by farm owners accepted to be part of a fully irrigated, high producing dairy operation.
