**About the Farm** We are a well-run, system focused dairy farm milking 470 cows on 150 ha of flat, free-draining, easy-to-manage land. It's a System 2 grass-focused operation, supplementing with home-grown maize and grass silage as required to meet demand. Farm description: - 54 bale rotary, ACR's, auto draft - 950 cows peak milk - system 2 farm system - 285ha effective, flat to rolling, forestry conversion - OAD from Christmas onward - roster 8:2 Farm is a forestry conversion completed in the 2000’s so infrastructure is all fairly modern and highly functional. Farm is in the district of Tirohanga, approximately 35mins to Taupo or Tokoroa, 40mins to Rotorua. Modern 3 bedroom house is available for the successful applicant. Cows are wintered on. Pasture based system with some palm kernel and grass silage in feed deficit. Fert is spread via contractor. About the role: We require a keen and enthusiastic person to assist us with running the farm day to day. Tasks you are required to complete include but are not limited to; milking, feeding out, setting up break fences, weed control and general farm maintenance. As a 2IC we would expect the successful candidate additionally to be able to ‘run’ the farm in the planned absence of the manager and carry out a share of night checks over calving. Running the farm would be to simply follow a pre arranged grazing plan and making sure all the routine tasks and work are completed. You will be working closely with the manager and for part of the year a junior staff member. However there will be many times where you will be working unsupervised so you must be comfortable and competent with that.
