A full-time position has become available for a motivated and enthusiastic farm assistant/2IC to join our team (there is also the possibility of regular part time work for a partner). Farm is located near Whataroa (South Westland), milking 700 cows through a modern 60 bale rotary with automatic cup removers and teat spray, automatic drafting and Allflex collars. We offer generous time off - 4 weeks holiday - and an 11 on 3 off roster through the majority of the season (Calving period operates 12 on 2 off). Happy to employ new entrants to the industry that show the right attributes - training is provided. The role (including but not limited too): - Assist in all aspects of the day to day running of a progressive dairy farm - Milking - mastitis detection, treatments, maintain a clean working environment - General farm duties - weed management, animal husbandry, break fences, all day-to-day jobs relating to the efficient running of a dairy farm - Tractor/machinery operation - Maintain a high level of workmanship The applicant: - Must be a New Zealand resident or have/be able to obtain a valid working visa - have a valid driver's licence - Dairying experience is desirable but not essential - positive personal attributes is important. - Able to pass a drug test if required Look forward to hearing from all potential employees - if you do not have a resume, a simple cover letter with details about yourself and contact details of referees is adequate - (blank applications will not be responded to). **About the Role:** We are looking for a motivated and reliable 2IC to join our 220ha dairy farm in Whataroa, milking 500 cows through a 25-a-side herringbone shed. The farm uses halter collars and a variable milking regime. You’ll work closely with the farm manager and a small team (2 full-time staff + a calf rearer), with a roster of 11 days on, 3 days off. **Key Responsibilities:** - Assist with milking, animal health, and general farm management. - Treat sick/infected animals and maintain high animal welfare standards. - Help maintain farm gear and equipment. - Work alongside the team, providing leadership and support when needed. - Assist with calf rearing during calving season. - Ensure farm health and safety protocols are followed. **Skills & Experience:** - 1-2 years of dairy farming experience (or transferable skills). - Competent in milking and basic animal care. - Knowledge of halter collars and variable milking regimes is a plus. - Strong work ethic, honesty, and attention to detail. - Ability to work independently and within a team. - Must be eligible to work in New Zealand. **The Ideal Candidate:** - Honest, hard-working, and animal-focused. - Proactive with farm gear and equipment. - Strong communicator and team player. **Additional Information:** - Accommodation provided. - Competitive salary with room for growth. - Must be able to attend an interview (in-person or via Zoom).
