Due to a purchase of a dairy farm, Broadview Dairy has an exciting new contract milking opportunity available, just ten minutes out of Otautau. The farm is 240ha effective and we are planning to peak milk 540 cows through a 42 aside herringbone shed. We are changing the system significantly and are targeting 245,000kgMS in our first season (450kgMS/cow), with sufficient feed being budgeted. We will be working closely with our consultant and our contract milkers to make sure that our feed budgets allow us to reach this target. We are looking for a contract milker with excellent pasture and feed management, and an eye for detail. You must be capable in all aspects of animal health and breeding and be able to lead a team to successfully run the farm. We are looking for an experienced contract milker to run our farm at 1374 Waimea Valley Road in the Riversdale district. The successful applicant will have proven ability to run a farm under system 2 while still maintaining a high standard across the farm in both performance and presentation. They will work with the farm consultant to help achieve the farm targets both in production and financial performance. The successful applicant will report to the Southland business manager and will be assisted by the office staff. Milking 750 cows over 292 effective ha. This a well set up farm with in shed feeding, ACR, Pro-track, auto teat sprayer and a feed pad. The on farm infrastructure is very good and well maintained. We are now looking for a dynamic person or couple who has at least five years New Zealand dairy farming experience. Excellent people management/relationship building skills, pasture management, feed budgeting, reporting and animal husbandry skills are necessary for the successful candidate will be managing their team as well as liaising with contractors, the runoff manager, and the farm owner. After a settling in period you will be expected to be able to operate the farm with occasional input from the owner. You’ll be supported in this with great infrastructure including a 64-bail, one-person rotary with modern technology such as in-shed individual bail feeding, Pro-track health and drafting, and ACRs.
