Farm Manager
A unique and exciting Farm Manager Role Donalds Farm was gifted to NZ Young Farmers by the late Donald Pearson. It is operated as an Educational Farm based on the outskirts of Auckland - Whitford. The role is a sole charge position. With regular on-farm visitors and professionals it is essential that the farm is managed at a high level. 140 predominantly Jersey cows are calved in early July, milked through a 11 a-side herringbone. The herd is milked once a day from early December and wintered on farm with the use of a Herd Home. The Farm Manager will collaborate with a dedicated Education co-ordinator to help with programmes run throughout the year. The farm is mostly hilly with some steep paddocks. It has a good range of buildings. Extensive work has been done and will continue to be done with native plantings in conjunction with Conservation Volunteers NZ. The farm is a grass-based system with in-shed feeding available when necessary. A modern three-bedroom house is available with a double garage. This job will require public speaking at on-farm events. The Farm Manager reports to the Donalds Farm Board.
