Irrigation is done by centre pivot, one turbo Rainer and corner sprinklers. We are looking for someone with a good attitude and take pride in their work. This position is a bit different to most as you won't be in the shed milking too often as we have a full time relief milker. To apply for this job you must be able to drive tractors; we do a good bit of pre mowing in front of cows with triple mowers and use a mixer wagon through winter and spring. The role will be mainly assisting the dairy manager with the day to day operations of the farm with responsibilities such as milking cows, identifying and treating lame and mastitis cows, contributing to farm maintenance, contributing to pasture quality and feed monitoring as well as tractor work and contributing to the farms health and safety needs. We require a Herd Manager to join our team. To be considered for the role, you must have a minimum of 6 months' NZ dairy farming work experience. You must be physically fit, with clean criminal and drug checks and a full driving licence. Tractor driving experience required. No pets are allowed in the shared accommodation. No smoking/vaping allowed in the shared accommodation and sheds. There is a minimum guaranteed 40 hours of work per week to a maximum of 50 hours at $30.00/hour. As a Herd Manager, you are expected to: - Carry out milk harvesting tasks safely, efficiently, and correctly, and assist in training new employees on correct techniques. - Assist with solving milk quality problems - Help farm assistants to understand factors that affect milk quality, hygienic milking, and mastitis control procedures. - Clean and maintain the milking plant and farm dairy equipment and carry out hygiene inspections - Move and handle animals safely, identify and diagnose animal health issues, and assist with treatments and prevention in line with farm policy. - Records and maintains all herd health treatments and events according to on-farm policy or dairy company policy, as advised by the manager. - Observe, record, and report on cows preparing to calve, and calve cows in line with farm policy. We are looking for a motivated senior Herd Manager with potential to grow into a 2IC position to join our team for next season. The farm is located just outside Hinds. Our 1280 cows are milked through a new automated 80 bail rotary shed with in shed feeding, Protrak and ACRs. We are looking for someone with at least 4 years full time dairy experience, ideally currently working at least as a senior Herd Manager. A down to earth person who enjoys being a hands-on leader, respectful and supportive to the team. Be able to co-ordinate and manage staff. The ideal candidate will be strong in following areas beside good people skills: pasture/feed management, animal husbandry skills, attention to details. Experience with MINDA/Herd Records and Protrak. Have excellent communication skills.
