We have a job for a New Zealand Assistant Farm Manager (2IC) position on a farm in the Bay of Plenty area. This is for a 440 cows farm, 15 minutes from Rotorua, milking through an automatic cup remover rotary shed. You'll have a range of responsibilities including the day-to-day management support including: - Milking - Shed Management - Animal Husbandry and Production - Animal Health Monitoring, Management and Treatment - Pasture and fodder Management - Maintenance of Shed, Equipment and Machinery - Know and meet regulatory rules & requirements - Mating, Calving and Calf rearing Management - and other general farm duties Weekly hours are a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 55 for the salary. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, should you work beyond the agreed maximum hours in a fortnightly pay period, you will be paid the agreed overtime hourly rate for any hours beyond the maximum hours. The schedule may vary but generally work hours are between 4am and go through 5pm with meal and rest breaks. Candidates must have previous dairy farming experience and are required to provide good, related references. To be considered you must: - at least have 2.5 years of NZ dairy farming experience. - provide a CV which is current, correct and complete or alternative evidence of work (this is proof of work and professionalism, and the employer will not consider you without this) - be a solid worker and with good character (where possible, we will do a criminal check) - be physically fit. - be able to pass a pre-employment drug test. - have a driver license.

The farm is rolling to steep terrain with a strong focus on managing the grass with the cows. The cowshed is a 44 aside herringbone with ACRs on the back 20 sets and meal feeding. Good staff room. The owners have been on farm for 30 years and it has grown over time, with two underpasses and good farm races. We are taking on the farm as contract milkers with high targets, with the tools and skill set to achieve. We need a competent Assistant manager to work with us, with the same ambition for farm success. Applicant needs to be proficient in all matters of dairy farming, including but not limited to: - Milking cows in a herringbone cowshed, good with numbers. - Identifying, preventing and treating mastitis, lameness, milk fever, and typical dairy cow ailments in New Zealand dairy farming systems. Currently we have two adjacent 700 cows farms that share the same farm entrance/tanker track. Each farm consists of a 2IC, Herd Manager + Relief milker. With a Farm Manager moving between the two farms + Contract milker working between the 2 properties where needed. The Farm Located on the South side of the Rangitata river, the farm is 15min to Temuka, 30 min to Timaru or Ashburton. With a local kindergarten only 5 min away and good local rural schooling available – Winchester Rural. The farm has 670 cows and boasts a 36 ASHB shed with Protrack and auto drafting, Auto teat spray, New silos and snapchill glycol chilling, Yard wash, Top and bottom gates, Ai Races, Side yards with lame crushes, In Shed feeding. Irrigation across the farm consists of Rotoraieners, K lines, Standard and Lateral Pivots with VRI where needed. Water sources are mainly bore pumped with some river access when not on restrictions. The dairy shed is centrally located on the farms with short walks (20-30min). Calf sheds are a 7 bay heifer shed with adjacent 3 bay bobby calf shed and loading ramp, located opposite the dairy shed for easy milk access.
