You’ll get stuck into a bit of everything — milking, feeding out, shifting stock, animal health, tractor work and general day to day farm jobs. You’ll be working alongside the owner, so good communication, honesty and a decent attitude go a long way. Comes with a tidy 3-bedroom house with a fire and heat pump. Would suit someone who enjoys farming, can work unsupervised when needed, but also likes a laugh and being part of a good crew. Experience is handy. We are small family owned and operated dairy farm with 450 jersey cows looking for our next permanent full-time Farm Assistant. Our farm is located in the Canterbury foothills in Mount Somers which is 20 minutes from Methven and 30 minutes to Ashburton and we milk twice daily through a 40 aside herringbone cowshed with grain feeders, auto cup removers and auto teat spray. You will work as part of team to complete daily jobs of milking (twice daily), moving stock, setting up paddocks, tractor work, spraying, moving k-lines for effluent as well as general maintenance and cleaning. During this time of year we are moving stock on winter crops at the run off and doing maintenance jobs. We would prefer someone with at least one year experience. We run a 11 days on and 3 days off roster so you generally get second Saturday, Sunday and Monday off. Accommodation is available in the township which is a 2 minute drive from the farm. We're looking for someone for a 2IC assistant manager role due to our current 2IC progressing to a management role in the industry, after over two year with us. Start date negotiable anytime between July and November. This is a permanent position with your own accommodation provided on-farm. Your position will consist of helping the herd owner/ farm manager operate the farm on day to day basis and leading the operation of the farm when the manager isn’t present. We are looking for an experienced farm worker (2+ years) to work as a Herd Manager on a 700-cow farm in the Ashburton area. The farm is located 10-15 minutes to Ashburton, 30 minutes from Mt Hutt Ski Field. This role is open to NZ Citizens/Residents only. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: - Milking and monitoring milk quality - Stock handling and feeding (feed management) - Fencing, weed control - Calving, calf rearing - Shed maintenance & preparation - Tractor operation for feeding out, baling, mowing and silage - Monitoring, recording and maintaining animal health - Other general farm duties. About the Role; You'll be responsible for rearing approximately 130 replacement heifer calves from birth through to weaning. This is a lead calf rearing position with the support of other on farm staff on busy days. Our calf system is straightforward and well set up: - All calves receive their first feed via tube feeding - Calves are then transitioned onto an ad-lib feeding system once they are trained on feeders. - Straw, Meal and fresh water all available in their pens and are checked/refreshed/topped up daily.
