We are looking for an experienced farm worker (2+ years) to work as a Herd Manager on a 700-cow farm in the Ashburton area. The farm is located 10-15 minutes to Ashburton, 30 minutes from Mt Hutt Ski Field. This role is open to NZ Citizens/Residents only. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: - Milking and monitoring milk quality - Stock handling and feeding (feed management) - Fencing, weed control - Calving, calf rearing - Shed maintenance & preparation - Tractor operation for feeding out, baling, mowing and silage - Monitoring, recording and maintaining animal health - Other general farm duties. Candidates must have competent and strong milking, centre pivot, and tractor work experience. Weekly hours are a minimum of 40 and a maximum of 50. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, any hours worked beyond the agreed maximum in a fortnightly pay period will be paid at the agreed overtime rate. The schedule may vary; Roster would be 7 days on 2 days off. Salary ranges from $74,000 - $78,000 per annum, depending on experience. Phone allowance of $20 per fortnight. Candidates must have previous dairy farming experience and are required to provide good related references. We are small family owned and operated dairy farm with 450 jersey cows looking for our next permanent full-time Farm Assistant. Our farm is located in the Canterbury foothills in Mount Somers which is 20 minutes from Methven and 30 minutes to Ashburton and we milk twice daily through a 40 aside herringbone cowshed with grain feeders, auto cup removers and auto teat spray. You will work as part of team to complete daily jobs of milking (twice daily), moving stock, setting up paddocks, tractor work, spraying, moving k-lines for effluent as well as general maintenance and cleaning. During this time of year we are moving stock on winter crops at the run off and doing maintenance jobs. We would prefer someone with at least one year experience. Ferriman Family Trust is looking to add an energetic farm assistant to our existing team of 3 men and 1 woman on our 850 cow dairy farm just south of Dunsandel. We operate an efficient, low fuss system milking through a 54 bale rotary shed with cup removers, protract, automatic teat spraying, in-shed feeding and an ezyheat camera to assist with heat detection. The farm is fully irrigated with centre pivots and fixed grid irrigation and we have a run-off 30 minutes further south where young stock are raised. You will be working with a manager who has been on farm for 19 years and two other team members who have been with us for 13 years. Our ideal applicant will have at least 2 years dairying experience including working in a rotary shed. We lease two farms in Southland, the larger being located at Redan where most of the stock work is required and another in Winton as well as the family farm in Woodlands that we don’t handle the day to day operations of but work in closely with and where most of the engineering related tasks are carried out. We like to do most farm related tasks in house and to a high standard avoiding out sourcing work where possible. This includes servicing and maintenance of farm machinery. Due to an increased workload we are looking for a skilled individual to step in for some regular part time work so that we can continue to farm at a high standard. The ideal candidate would be a highly skilled farmer / engineer living local in lower southland area that is happy doing 30 hours per week on average with the exception of lambing and cultivation where long days every day are a given but for the rest of the year it is cruizy. If we don’t find someone that is skilled in both farming and engineering we are open to employing someone who is only suitable as a farmer or an engineer. In this situation it would be a casual contract as the hours offered would be less. There is no accommodation offered on farm and with some days being short it is not justifiable to travel great distances to the farm for this role therefore please only apply if you live close enough that you are happy to travel to Redan and Woodlands on a regular basis. The ideal candidate will have a good background in dry stock farming as well as engineering and mechanical.
