Elite Farm Managers Position With Equity Potential – 640 Cows Hamilton This farm manager’s position is located at 454 Collins Road only a few minutes from Hamilton. The farm is 195ha effective milking platform and an internal runoff of 50ha. Currently wintering 640 cows and farmed under a simple pasture based system. This position has become available as the current manager has decided to take up an equity lease opportunity within the wider group. The successful applicant will be given a lot of autonomy with day to day management and must demonstrate experience and knowledge in the following disciplines: - Recruit, develop and organise staff in a way that creates a strong team environment - Technical and practical skill in feed budgeting and allocation. - Financial budgeting ability and able to perform to budget. - Stock management – Ability to create and implement SCC, Lameness, Heat detection and all related animal health plans for a large dairy herd. - Good verbal and written communication skills. - Computer literacy and sound record keeping practices eg (Minda/Nait) - The operation and maintenance of machinery - Capable of implementing the weed, water, fencing, races and general farm maintenance - Well-developed time management practices. - Health and Safety practices - Effluent management and other compliance requirements of modern dairy farming The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to have on-going training and support from the owners where required. There is long term progression within the role as the farm has been a long term lease farm within the JD and RD Wallace farming group. Business opportunities such as equity investment, contract milking and larger management opportunities are open for discussion as the owners have a long history of such partnerships. The role comes with a tidy 3-bedroom home. The farm has two other tidy three bedroom houses. Historically relief labour has also been easy to source due to the farms location and the current experienced 21C and Herd manager are keen to stay on. The farm has a very successful history consistently benchmarking in the top 10% of profit per hectare for Waikato dairy farms. Operating under a simple pasture based farming system. Strategic once a day is used with the young cows going on OAD before mating and often the whole herd is OAD from January. The herd has been a settled herd for 30+ years with LIC breeding and four herd tests per season. The farm has 75% peat flats with 25% flat clay soils with an excellent fertiliser history. The farm has a modern machinery fleet and excellent farm infrastructure with an excellent cow flow 36 bale HB cow shed. The scale of farm allows for full time or part time work for partners and extended family members.
