Parininihi ki Waitotara (PKW) is a Māori Incorporation based in Taranaki, Aotearoa. PKW own 20,000 hectares of some of the most productive dairy land in the world and have a range of business interests including dairy farming, crayfish, forestry and commercial property. The PKW Group, includes PKW Farms Limited Partnership, Taranaki’s largest dairy farmer with active business interests in dairy and dairy support, beef and livestock trading.
The Limited Partnership comprises of 20 dairy, dairy support and drystock farms, covering around 4,000 hectares with 100 kaimahi and/or contractors supporting the farming operations. PKW Farms LP is now taking applications for a Farming Partner (Contract Milker) to operate a 430-cow property, located near Manaia, and within 20-minutes to Hawera township in South Taranaki. This is the chance to work in a supportive farming group, and farm on quality whenua.
Key responsibilities of the Contract Milker include:
· Leading Environmental, Health & Safety practices
· Employing, leading and remunerating team members
· Liaising and working with the Business Manager
· Financial planning and budget management
· Milk production, compliance and quality management
· Animal health, welfare and reproduction
· Asset and machinery management
· Feed allocation and production improvement
· Management reporting
Reporting to the Business Manager, the Contract Milker will need to be a self-manager with at least three years’ experience in farm management. Those considering this role should also have a genuine commitment to working within the PKW business requirements and supporting Māori aspirations.
About the Farm (known as Farm 17)
The farm is medium input, 143ha spring-calving property of flat contour. The on-farm team is expected to consist of the principal (Contract Milker/s), and an additional 1.5 labour Units. The Dairyshed is a 50-bail Herringbone with the addition of Automatic Cup Removers. The property has been producing around 180,000 kgMS per annum.
The majority of the machinery required for the contract will be supplied by PKW, with the Contractor needing to provide vehicles (excluding Tractor), small tools, and basic calf rearing equipment. Weekly reporting around Health & Safety, and farm performance metrics is a core component of the Contract Milker’s role.
There are two dwellings incorporated in the contract, with the main homestead 4 bedrooms and the employee accommodation 3 bedroom.
