We are looking for a progressive senior farm assistant/ herd manager with drive to go somewhere in the New Zealand dairy industry. We run a system 2 farm with strategic use of supplements and majority of cows are wintered off-farm. You will work alongside an inclusive farm manager who is looking for a team player with a positive attitude, who has high work standards, an open and honest approach and want to grow your career in the dairy industry. Haurua Pastural is located 20 minutes south east of Te Awamutu near Parawera. The dairy platform is 276 hectares effective with a 30ha runoff block, peak milking 830 cows through a 44-aside herringbone. With a well-rostered milking rota, we utilise a varied system of twice-a-day and once-a-day milking through until mid January, and then everything is once a day milked. You will be part of a 4 person team that is driven to achieve on farm targets, work safely and effectively, and enjoy the variety of tasks. The role includes a mix of milking along with calf rearing, young/dry stock support block work, supplement feeding, weed control, and fencing. The herd manager will be responsible for some record keeping/herd admin alongside running an efficient and tidy milking shed. Two of our staff members who've been with us for multiple seasons are progressing into Share Milking and Contract Milking respectively at the end of this season. Daily duties to include, but not limited to milkings, operating tractors and implements, loading feed wagons, feeding out on feedpad (up to twice a day), shifting and setting up travelling irrigators, weed control, shed cleanliness and maintenance, calving, mating etc. We are after someone who will hit the ground running and is reliable, honest, good at following directions, strong work ethic and can use their own initiative. You will have at least two years NZ dairy farming experience. We use Protrac, Pasture-Io, C-dax pasture Sleigh, CowManager etc, so an understanding of farm tech will be beneficial. We offer Agito Training support and help to progress in the industry. Must be drug free and a Pre-employment drug test is NON negotiable. Random testing is carried out throughout the season. Although this is a 12/2 roster we try and make it as cruizy as possible, later in the season if all goes well we do 3in2 or 10in7 milkings if the season allows for it.
