**Job Description** Autumn Calving Farm - We need an extra hand over our busy Calving-Mating season. Starting Early March and finishing late August (7 months). We have 480 Friesian cows to calve from 10 March- 20 May over 12 weeks. We are setting up a new automated calf feeding shed - which is still work in progress. The position will involve: - The whole calf rearing process from assisting collecting calves from paddock. - Feeding Colostrum for first 4-5 days. - Transitioning calves onto the autofeeders. - Mixing Milk powder (which requires lifting 25 kg bags). - Cleaning and washing down calf feeding area daily. - Feeding Meal and Straw to calves (25 kg meal bags). - Feeding calves in paddock, shifting calves to other paddocks. - Assist with Milking when other staff have days off. - Assist with post Milking Clean up. - Assist with other general farm duties when other staff have days off. We are seeking an experienced milker & farmhand to assist with general farm duties and milking a 400 cow Friesian herd, in a 42 bale rotary milking shed with automatic cup removers. This is a full time position, and the roster is 12 days on, 2 days off (i.e every second weekend off). Morning milkings are usually between 4:30-7:30am and afternoons are usually between 2:00 – 4:30pm. Other farm duties you may be involved with will include general farm duties e.g: · Shifting cows & feeding · Fencing, weed control · Shed cleaning and set up · Identifying and alerting other staff/vet about sick animals You will be required to ride a quad bike, and drive the tractor. The farm contour is completely flat with well laid out paddocks, central races and all paddocks are irrigated to troughs. You must be able to work as part of a team and/or sole charge. There are 2 other full time workers (the farm manager and the farm owner). We are looking for an honest, hard working, experienced and reliable team player. We have a small, relaxed, flexible, family friendly team, with a drug free policy in our work place. There may be a possibility for on farm accommodation to be provided. We are situated in Longburn, 10 minutes from Palmerston north, so handy for town. Salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependant on skills and experience (competitive and fair remuneration package offered).
