Farm Assistant / Tractor Operator – Rangitata Island We are looking for a capable and reliable Farm Assistant / Tractor Operator to join our team across two farms on Rangitata Island. This role is primarily tractor, irrigation and maintenance focused, with some dairy shed work required. We have a runoff block in Albury where cows are wintered. The runoff block is used only from June to mid-July, with the remainder of the season based on flat country dairy farm. **Key Responsibilities** - Tractor and machinery operation (feeding out, topping, rolling and general farm work) - Working on hill country during the winter runoff period - Irrigation maintenance and basic repairs - Assisting in the dairy shed when required - General farm maintenance and upkeep **What We’re Looking For** - Confident tractor operator (hill country experience preferred) - Practical, hands-on attitude with good mechanical awareness - Reliable, motivated, and able to work independently - Willing to help in the dairy shed when needed **What We Offer** - Competitive pay based on experience - Variety of work across two farms - Supportive working environment - Long-term opportunity for the right person There is also the opportunity for a calf rearing role and ongoing relief milking for spouse if applicable, this work will be paid at an hourly rate. **NOTE:** Job is starting 1/06/26, to be considered for this role you need to be a New Zealand Citizen or permanent resident. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a 770ha irrigated platform, finishing approximately 4,000 head of beef cattle annually and grazing 1,500 replacements. Reporting to the Grazing Manager, you’ll play a key role in operating and maintaining tractors and farm equipment, repairing fences, and assisting with stock management — all while contributing to our kaupapa of sustaining land and water so our people prosper.
