We milk through a 60 bail rotary with acrs - only one person required in shed. The farm a mix of flat to hilly contour based in Reporoa. Some of the areas you will need to have proven yourself in are: feeding out/tractor driving, motorbike experience and the ability to navigate hilly paddocks, milk harvesting, treating cow health issues, using automatic drafting, setting up paddocks, dealing with calving difficulties and down cows. Cows are milked twice daily year-round through an 18-aside herringbone shed. The farm operates as a System 3 with in-shed feeding throughout the year and baleage fed during the shoulder seasons. Plantain is grown to support summer milk production and achieve farm environmental targets. Datamars ear tags are used to support heat detection during mating. The effective milking platform is currently 81 hectares predominantly flat to rolling contour with a small amount of steeper terrain. The farm is part of a multi-farm business including two similar-sized dairy units and a drystock/support block. **About the role:** We are seeking a motivated person to fill the 2IC position and take an active role in the day-to-day management of the farm. You will be involved in all aspects of the dairy farm, including: - Sole charge milking - Pasture management and feed allocation - Animal health - Calf rearing - Effluent management - Weed control - General farm maintenance and management You will report directly to the farm owner who is on hand to provide support when required. There is also an existing farm assistant who supports the 2IC across both farms. We are looking for an Assistant Dairy Farm Manager /2IC. The position is based in Te Puke area in New Zealand. This is full-time, permanent positions guaranteeing at least 30 hours of work per week, but you will usually work between 30 to 50 hours per week. The pay rate is $32 per hour. Responsibilities: The 2IC / Assistant Dairy Farm Manager will work closely with the Contract Milker to ensure the smooth and efficient daily operations of the farm. The role requires overseeing the day-to-day management of the farm, including milking, animal health, calving, mating, equipment handling, general farm maintenance, implementing farm policies and plans. The 2IC will act as the second in-command and will be expected to manage the farm in the absence of the Contract Milker. Assistant Dairy Farm Manager must report to contract milker. Maintains hygiene and cleanliness around dairy. Implements and monitors health, calving and mating plans and reports progress. Identifies and treats animal health problems. Monitors all calving mobs and calf rearing on farm. Diagnoses and manages all calving-related health issues and ensures the recording and tagging of young stock. Carry out effluent disposal and irrigation in accordance with environmental policies and farm instructions. Monitors the irrigation and pumping system and repairs minor faults and troubleshoots problems. Actively models a H, S & W culture and is aware of others in the workplace. Understands and assists with development and monitors throughout season; assists with developing farm budget. Safely uses and maintains vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. Supports and trains junior employees in their development. Assist with additional farm tasks & projects as required. Looking for a keen, hardworking Assistant Manager (2ic) to take on leadership within the farm and assist the manager in daily running of the team. The right person will join our team of 4 on our family owned farm, for the 2026/27 season. We require someone with an interest in working with technology as we are a Halter farm and do all of our recording on Halter, Minda live and the dairy diary app. We want someone who is active, keen to work hard and learn. The successful applicant will be reliable, honest, show initiative and treat our farm and our animals as if they were their own. Your tasks will include, but are not limited to; Feed allocation/ basic pasture management Setting and dropping break fences on Halter (we will teach this, you must have a smartphone and be willing to work with it every day) Daily milking, Riding motorbikes, Identifying basic animal health issues incl mastitis, lameness, down cows and reporting other illness to management.
