There is an opportunity for your partner to do the calf rearing in spring 1 to 2 hrs per morning and casual relief milking. The cowshed is a 30ashb shed. The position for manager is fulltime and comes with a tidy 3-to-4-bedroom house; it has a large stand-alone shed/garage and attached carport to the house. Primary and secondary schools are within 5kms. This farm is a grass-based system. We are not visa accredited; you must be available for an interview on the farm. The manager's position will consist of all record keeping that is required for Minda and Fonterra, also staff timesheet records. Pasture management, the daily running of the farm and upkeep is key. You will be working closely at times with another of our farms nearby, 2km up the road. Not very often, but when needed to work in with a team environment.

Farm Manager position available 15 minutes south of Te Awamutu on an Autumn calving farm. After 7 Seasons our current manager is moving to other career goals. This position manages the day to day operation of a 70ha 100% Autumn calving farm; calving 150-160 Cows (PSC 4th March) with 50 - 80 empty cows coming from spring calving farms within the wider operation for a total herd size of approx 230 cows milked through the winter to dry off in the following January. No replacements are currently reared with all mating (AB and bull) to beef bred, which also means no heifers are calved down. Current production is around 95-100k KGMS per year and we are looking for someone to carry on those production levels through targeted feeding and excellent grass management. Supplement feeding is carried out with a feed wagon on a feed pad and usually consists of maize silage, pk and baled grass silage, with a blend fed via inshed feed system. The farm is a mix of rolling and flat contour. We put a high emphasis on animal health and work proactively to ensure low cell count and prevent lameness. We’ve moved away from chemical fertilisers and are incorporating regenerative practices where we can i.e. deferred grazing, multi-species pastures, and biological fertilisers. As Farm Manager you will be responsible for daily tasks including: - Milk harvesting twice a day (and being across milk quality) - Grazing/pasture management - Optimising feed based on achieving stable rumination (herd has Smaxtec boluses) - Loading daily supplementary feed requirements on the feed pad, with mixer wagon - Effluent management i.e. operation of travelling irrigator - Keeping a clean & well maintained milking plant - Looking after animal health and wellbeing (including keeping accurate and up-to-date records) What would make you right for the job? - You have at least two years dairy farming experience - You work efficiently & safely - You are observant & can think for yourself - You are a good communicator & can work collaboratively with others - You genuinely like working with cows & notice if they don’t seem well - You’re confident, patient and calm when handling stock - You’ve got good experience and references We’re keen to support career progression in dairy farming.
