We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and passionate Farm Manager to take full operational, financial and people-management responsibility for this crucial facility.
About the Role
As Farm Manager, you will be the on-site leader, responsible for delivering world-class results while fulfilling Owl Farm’s demonstration and educational mandate, working within a 142 ha farming operation milking 380 spring-calving cows in a System 3 setup with in-shed feeding, 36 bail rotary, and with calves grazed on farm.
Operational Excellence: Implement the agreed farm management plan to achieve production, financial and environmental goals.
People Leadership: Lead, manage and mentor two Farm Assistants and support relief milkers, fostering a quality, safety-focused team culture.
Best Practice: Ensure the highest standards of animal welfare, herd reproduction and animal health are met, aligning with our role as a leading demonstration facility.
Compliance & Stewardship: Maintain rigorous compliance with all health, safety, environmental and animal welfare regulations.
Education & Engagement: Actively support the farm's learning objectives by engaging positively with students, industry partners and visitors to share knowledge and showcase best practice.
What You Will Bring
Proven, senior experience in pastoral dairy farming systems.
Strong, visible leadership and people-management capability.
Sound knowledge of animal welfare, health, and dairy compliance.
High personal standards, a professional approach, and a strong work ethic.
Physical fitness and capability to perform varied farm tasks.
Desirable Attributes:
Relevant qualifications (e.g., ITO Level 4 NZ Certificate in Agriculture – Dairy Farming or higher).
Confidence in using farm management technology and data.
Experience working on demonstration, research, or highly transparent farms.
A passion for sustainable dairy farming and continuous improvement.
A natural communicator who enjoys mentoring and teaching.
A collaborative, solutions-focused approach.

Working Conditions & Benefits

On-Site Residence: The role includes a three-bedroom residence on the St. Peter's School campus.
Availability: Requires a rotating roster, including weekend responsibilities, and on-call flexibility for emergencies.
