**Job Description** - **Milking**: Manage efficient and hygienic milking routine. Follow procedure to produce high quality milk. - **Animals**: Manage safe handling of animals, report any health and welfare issues as per farm policy. Manage the moving and handling animals safely and observe and report on wellbeing of all classes of stock. - **Feed**: Set break fences and feeds out as directed. Manage pasture and crop weed control and learn about feed allocations and health issues associated with crops. - **Environment**: Manage dairy effluent systems operate and how effluent affects the on-farm environment and be aware of regional council requirements and their responsibilities to comply with these. - **People**: Manage and work well with others, building a strong team culture. Develop an understanding of what makes a good farm team, and how their actions affect the wider team. - **Machine, vehicles, and technology**: Manage the safe use and maintenance of vehicles on farm as directed by on farm policy. Manage the farm irrigation system, and assist with identifying irrigation problems and making repairs, as directed. - **Health, safety and wellbeing**: Manage and be involved in building a health, safety, and wellbeing culture and adhere to the farm H, S & W policy. Identify hazards, understands safety procedures, and demonstrates safe on-farm work practices. **Requirements**: - Must be able to work weekends, early starts, and in all weather. - Must have a driver's license, be drug free, have a positive attitude, ride a motorbike, and work well within a team. - Must live on farm with no animals. - Must have at least 24 months work experience on a New Zealand dairy farm. **Farm Size**: 231 ha **Peak Herd Size**: 800 cows **Typical On-farm Staff**: 4 **Position Start Date**: 05/01/2026 **Accommodation available**: Single **Average Hours Per week**: 45 **Roster**: Single rotation - 5 Days on / 2 days Off **Remuneration**: Waged at $33.56 an hour

Start date will be 1st of August to approximately 1st of October earlier start possible to negotiate. Main jobs include: - Making sure each calf gets gold colostrum - Teaching new calves to feed - feeding all calves twice daily - ensuring calves have clean water, meal and hay daily - keeping up with hygiene practices (cleaning calf feeders/bottles/buckets daily) - disinfection of calf pens via spraying virkon and sprinkling stalosan. We are located between Mandeville and Riversdale 15 minutes from Gore. We calve 650 cows. We aim to rear around 180 replacement heifers, sell 4 day old beefies and bobbies. All milk is pumped to each pen the only handling of buckets is gold colostrum and bobby milk. Great gear and facilities, on average 6 hours per day Drive in position. We are seeking an experienced farm worker (2+ years) to work as a Herd Manager on a 1500-cow farm in the Balfour area. The farm is located approximately 45 minutes from Gore, milking through two Herringbone sheds.
