With our current Unit Manager moving on to Contract milking next season, we are looking to fill a current opening one of our two farms. Currently we have two adjacent 700 cows farms that share the same farm entrance/tanker track. Each farm consists of a 2IC, Herd Manager + Relief milker. With a Farm Manager moving between the two farms + Contract milker working between the 2 properties where needed. The Farm Located on the South side of the Rangitata river, the farm is 15min to Temuka, 30 min to Timaru or Ashburton. With a local kindergarten only 5 min away and good local rural schooling available – Winchester Rural. The farm has 670 cows and boasts a 36 ASHB shed with Protrack and auto drafting, Auto teat spray, New silos and snapchill glycol chilling, Yard wash, Top and bottom gates, Ai Races, Side yards with lame crushes, In Shed feeding. Irrigation across the farm consists of Rotoraieners, K lines, Standard and Lateral Pivots with VRI where needed. Water sources are mainly bore pumped with some river access when not on restrictions. The dairy shed is centrally located on the farms with short walks (20-30min). Calf sheds are a 7 bay heifer shed with adjacent 3 bay bobby calf shed and loading ramp, located opposite the dairy shed for easy milk access. The Job: Dairy Assistant Manager This position is suited to someone with 3-4 years experience minimum and is ready to have a bit more involvement with the day to day running of the farm. You will work closely with the Farm Unit Manager and the Farm Assistant in the team of 3 on Siberia, and sometimes also as part of the larger farm team. Cows are equipped with Allflex collars to support heat detection, animal health monitoring and overall herd management. Milking is through a modern 60-bale rotary fitted with ACR, auto wash, teatwand, Dataflow, and in shed feeding for grain and blend feeds. We are looking for someone with solid dairy experience who is ready for more responsibility and committed to progressing their career. You will need to have a minimum of 2 years NZ dairy experience. Remuneration will be based on experience. Hours would be approx. 45/wk. This is an exciting new role within our organisation. We are after someone who will take a senior role in our beef operation. You will be required to work with stock and must have 2 good working dogs that are under excellent command. This will be a challenging role, that requires you to have excellent relationships with the farm owners, staff, stock agents and representatives etc. You need to have the drive and true desire to extend yourself. Effectively this is like an "apprenticeship" to prove you are capable and the right mix to move through the ranks quickly to become an Operations Manager type position. About the role As 2IC, you will work closely with the Farm Manager to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day operations. This is a hands-on role where you will step up and take responsibility for the farm when the Manager is away. You’ll help lead and support a team of four staff, keeping routines consistent and helping everyone stay on track — especially as we settle into the new farm together. This role is well-suited to someone with a minimum of 4 years’ dairy farming experience, who takes pride in doing a job properly and enjoys being part of a team environment. Key responsibilities - Milking & milk quality: Support efficient milkings, consistent routines, and high milk quality and hygiene standards. - Animal health: Daily monitoring and reporting (lameness, mastitis, calving issues), assisting with treatments and records as required. - Mating & calving: Support the mating program and help ensure calving runs smoothly with a strong focus on animal health and welfare. - Pasture & feeding: Assist with feed allocation, break fencing, and monitoring pasture quality and cow condition. - Machinery operation: Confident and safe operation of farm vehicles and machinery, following health and safety requirements. - Farm oversight: Step up to lead the farm and support staff when the Farm Manager is away. We are contract milkers heading into our 6th season on this farm, with myself wanting to step off farm to study and follow other dreams, we are looking for someone to fill my shoes. We milk 500 jersey cows, twice a day until December then we go OAD. 36 aside herringbone, cow manager tags, automated drafting, flat to rolling farm, 5 pivots, fixed grid, k-lines and couple boarders. The farm has a vege garden, couple goats, the odd sheep from time to time. We run a simple mainly grass based system with crops on the fringes of the season. We are looking for someone that will be able to manage the day to day running of the farm, pasture management, animal health and milking's. There will be minimal tractor work, a little feeding out and applying urea. Steve (husband) will still be on farm full time so won't be left without backup. We plan to have a full time milker and a calf rearer also to help take the pressure off. So open for a couple if partner would like some work also.
