The farm is flat, well established, and supported by a strong, loyal, and experienced team. For the upcoming season, Ashton will continue operating as a split-calving system. At the same time, the farm will begin a major development programme, including the rollout of full irrigation and significant infrastructure upgrades over the next 18 months. Once that transition is complete and the new operating model is in place, Ashton will move to a smaller, autumn-calving system. We’re looking for a Future Farm Manager — someone ready for the next step, working alongside an on-farm senior manager and supported by the Operations Manager. You’ll share day-to-day responsibility during the current phase and contribute to the development programme and transition to the new farm system. From 1 June 2027, you’ll step into the permanent Farm Manager role on the new autumn-calving Ashton operation. Now to 31 May 2027: 2,115 cows across 580ha, 60-bale rotary, split herd (spring and autumn), Protrack, feedpad. The dairy platform is 300 ha of flat to rolling country with an adjoining 350 ha runoff/beef block where we graze youngstock and winter all cows on crop and Baleage. We are milking 800 cows through a 50 bale rotary with ACRs and automatic teat sprayer. 150 -200 cows are milked OAD for most of the season. We have Halter on both the dairy platform and wintering area of the support block to help with pasture, crop and animal management. We are looking for someone who has solid experience in dairy farming and is confident and competent in managing the day to day running of the dairy farm. Your main area of responsibilities would be managing the milking process and cowshed, record keeping, animal health, pasture/crop management, and 2 other staff. We are supportive owners who live on farm and take care of the calf rearing and the support block. We are always keen to see good people progress in the dairy industry so this position could suit someone looking to step up into their first management position who still wants a bit of support and guidance when needed, or equally could suit an experienced manager. Patoka is a great community 40 mins out of Napier or Hastings, with a local primary school and kindy 5 minutes down the road, close to the Kaweka Ranges for great fishing and hunting, good hunting on the farm too.
