Farm location is around 45 minutes from Invercargill and 2 hours from Dunedin. We are seeking three experienced farm workers (18+ months) to work as Herd Managers on a 400-cow farm in the Awarua Plains area, milking through a 60 Bail Rotary shed. You'll have a range of duties to keep you busy, interested and developing including: - Milking and monitoring milk quality, - stock handling and feeding (feed mgt), - fencing, weed control, - calving, calf rearing, - shed maintenance & preparation, - tractor operation for feeding out, baling, mowing and silage - monitoring, recording and maintaining animal health - and other general farm duties. Weekly hours are a minimum of 45 and a maximum of 50. Since farm work is dependent on a number of unknown factors like weather and animals, any hours worked beyond the agreed maximum in a fortnightly pay period will be paid at the agreed overtime rate. The schedule may vary; Roster will be 5 days on, 2 days off for the rest of the year. Wage ranges from $28.00 - $31.00 per hour, subject to experience. We require an honest reliable herd manager with 2 years' experience or a Level 4 Qualification or above relevant to join our team in Southland. Duties include but not limited to: - Milking: manages efficient and hygienic milking routine - Animals: Handles stock in a safe manner, treats records and reports on health or welfare issues - Feed: Manages pasture and crop feed allocations sets breaks and feeds in conjunction with owner - Environment: Follows farm policy on nutrient, effluent and water management - Machine, Vehicle and Technology: Operates machinery following safe handling practices and maintenance plans Applicants require a criminal free record and maybe subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
