**Second In-Charge (2IC) - 250 cows, Reporoa**

Due to our long-serving 2IC of six years moving on at the end of the season, we are seeking a new person to take up the role starting 1 June 2026.
**About the farm:**
This well-run 250 cow dairy farm is located in Mihi, Reporoa, and produces approximately 100,000 kg MS/yr. Cows are milked twice daily year-round through an 18-aside herringbone shed.
The farm operates as a System 3 with in-shed feeding throughout the year and baleage fed during the shoulder seasons. Plantain is grown to support summer milk production and achieve farm environmental targets.
Datamars ear tags are used to support heat detection during mating.
The effective milking platform is currently 81 hectares predominantly flat to rolling contour with a small amount of steeper terrain. The farm is part of a multi-farm business including two similar-sized dairy units and a drystock/support block.
**About the role:**
We are seeking a motivated person to fill the 2IC position and take an active role in the day-to-day management of the farm.
You will be involved in all aspects of the dairy farm, including:
- Sole charge milking
- Pasture management and feed allocation
- Animal health
- Calf rearing
- Effluent management
- Weed control
- General farm maintenance and management
You will report directly to the farm owner who is on hand to provide support when required. There is also an existing farm assistant who supports the 2IC across both farms.
The role would suit someone looking to step up, grow their management skills, and be part of a supportive, well-structured farming operation.
**About you:**
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Show initiative and manage the day-to-day aspects of the farm including sole charge milking,
- Be competent with core tasks such as milking, animal health, pasture management, effluent application, mating and calf rearing,
- Be experienced in driving a tractor and using a bale feeder,
- Be comfortable using, or willing to learn, farm technology including the Fonterra Dairy Diary and Datamars app
- Have strong communication and time management skills,
- Be able to work unsupervised as well as part of a team,
- Be open to learning, new ideas, and continuous improvement,
- Be physically fit and reliable,
- Have a positive attitude towards health and safety, animal welfare and the environment.
