This could suit a couple as hours can be available on weekends for milkings to cover sharemilkers time off. You would be assisting with general farm duties, including milking cows, feeding calves, repair and maintenance, putting up fences. Tractor driving, fertiliser, feeding out. Picking cows for AI would be an advantage. The suitable candidate would be someone who is physically fit, enjoys rural life and works well in a team environment. My clients are seeking their first 50/50 share milker for their circa 220ha property (inc 70ha lease) well located mid-way between Auckland and Hamilton at Island Block near Meremere. The property consists of mainly rolling clay soils (90%) with an area of wetter peat flats and is split by a road accessed via 2 underpasses. There is a good 32ASHB cowshed which is centrally located along with a recently upgraded lined effluent pond. Production has been variable in recent years due to a reduction in area and changes in staffing and cropping/feeding regimes but has peaked at 160,000kgMS from approx 260ha eff. This season it is on track to do around 130,000kgMS (last season 140,000kgMS). The farm has been calving around 500 cows on a System 2 with minimal bought in feed to keep things simple. Some cropping has been trialed with maize, triticale and chicory. The system has primarily been TAD milking until mid Sept when the young herd goes onto OAD, the older TAD herd goes onto OAD from Christmas on, therefore opportunities exist to increase production from tweaks to this. There are 3 homes available for the share milker; 2 x 3 bedroom and 1 x 4 bedroom, all have had some form of redecorating in recent years and they are well positioned with nice views over the farm. The farm owners ideally seek a young, keen sharemilker with excellent communication and pasture management skills in order to get the most out of the property. There could be the opportunity to purchase the farm/part of in the medium term for those with farm ownership aspirations. The owners’ Jsy/KX herd is available for sale and due to not being pushed hard has consistently achieved excellent mating results, 3% MT last season and 6-7% 5yr avg with no intervention used. Sexed semen is used for 3 weeks as well as Speckle Park bulls (out by Xmas) with calves including replacements and a large number of beefies all going to the farm owners’ runoff block. Going forward with new Sharemilkers the farm owners would like to reduce stocking rates down to around 450 cows. They would however be happy to look at good Sharemilkers who may not have the financial ability to go to 450 straight away and would look at options down to 350 cows as a minimum and how the system may change to accommodate this e.g. replacements grazed on farm. Due to current Manager moving on, a position is available for a 50/50 Sharemilker on our Autumn calving farm. The farm is flat to easy rolling and has a peak herd size of 290-300 cows. The calving is set to start on 20/3/2026. The farm size is 122 hectares with a 25 aside shed. Accommodation is available in a 3 bed house. The average hours per week are 60, with the roster by negotiation. Remuneration is paid by a percentage of the milk cheque, with an expected remuneration of 500,000.

Herd Manager required for large dairy farm on West Coast 20 km from Hokitika. Minimum experience required of 2-3 years on New Zealand dairy farm, and Level 3 Certificate in Agriculture OR significant progress towards completing that qualification. Qualities required include a professional approach, ability to work under pressure, organisational and time management skills and excellent attention to detail. This role includes the ability to work effectively as a part of a large team. Must be able to efficiently and safely run the day-to-day operation include milking cows, shed hygiene, feed allocation, animal health monitoring and treatments, breeding AB selection, feeding supplements, tractor work, effluent management, and weed and pest control. Must be able to supervise and train other staff on the farm, and use and manage farm technology, recording and management systems. Good level of literacy and numeracy required to ensure accurate data recording and monitoring and ensure correct feeding and treatments. Ability to keep a clean and tidy workplace is essential. Ability and experience riding 2 wheel and 4 wheel motorbikes safely on difficult terrain is also required. A minimum of Full Class 1 NZ Drivers Licence required. We milk 650 cows through a 48 bale cow shed with auto teat spray and automatic cup removers. The farm is flat contour, tidy and well setup and located approximately 10 mins to Hokitika. We run an 11 and 3 roster with a max hours of 55, hours over the year are variable but will average a lot lower than 55. We run a team of 3 full time workers and there is always 2 people working.
