We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual to join our team as a Relief Milker on our farm in the Manawatu/Tararua region. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a flexible, hands-on role in dairy farming. Essentially this is a work for rent position with accommodation provided. Location - Papatawa. 10 minutes to Woodville, 15 minutes to Dannevirke, 30 minutes to Palmerston North. Accommodation: A newly renovated 3-bedroom cottage with a single garage, heat pump, wood fire, new kitchen and a quiet rural setting. Rent is $400 per week, utilities and furniture not included. Hours: Minimum of 2 days per week, paid at $25 per hour. A general workday is around 7-9 hours. This Job may grow in the future and there is flexibility on days and hours throughout the year. There is also opportunity for networking within the wider farming community. This role would be suitable for a couple, where one partner is able to work the 16 hours per week on farm to cover rent and the other has external employment to cover your other living costs. About the farm: 115 hectares, flat to rolling/hill country with some steep paddocks. 300 jersey cows milked through a 36 aside herringbone cowshed. Your duties will include: getting cows in using a 2 or 4 wheeler bike, milking cows with attention to detail regarding mastitis and lameness, setting and unsetting break fences, some tractor work such as feeding out silage bales, weed control and general farm maintenance over less busy periods. We are currently seeking an experienced relief milker on our 430 cow farm near Foxton. The farm has an excellent infrastructure: 36 aside herring bone with a smooth flowing automatic teat spraying cow shed in late spring. This is a well-structured farm with very good procedures and guidelines in place. You will need to demonstrate passion, drive and ambition for the role and have an attention to detail with strong communicational skills to be successful with us. There are great working conditions centered on a strong Health and Safety work environment. We are looking for someone to be able to help with relief milking every second weekend the start of January through until the end of the season in June. There is also additional work available to cover staff annual leave periods if the candidate was interested. The farm is located 10 minutes south of Sanson or 10 minutes north of Foxton on state highway 1. (30 minutes from Palmerston North).
