The successful applicant would run the day to day management of the dairy platform. Cows, Grass, feeding, people and harvesting the milk in an efficient way. Key Responsibilities Farm Operations - Plan, coordinate, and manage daily milking, feeding, animal health, and general farm activities. - Ensure milk quality standards are consistently met. - Oversee pasture management, feed budgeting, and supplementary feed use. - Operate and maintain farm equipment and infrastructure. - High standards for Farm appearance Animal Health & Welfare - Monitor herd health and implement preventative animal health programs. - Work closely with vets and other service providers to ensure best practices. - Ensure all livestock are treated humanely and according to industry standards. Staff Management - Lead and manage two staff members, ensuring a positive and productive work environment. - Plan rosters, allocate tasks, and provide ongoing training and support. - Foster a strong team culture with a focus on safety and wellbeing. Compliance & Sustainability - Maintain accurate records for herd management, milk production, and farm performance. - Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices. - Manage effluent systems responsibly and in line with regional requirements. Reporting & Planning - Report farm performance and challenges to the owner. - Attend meetings with advisors Skills & Experience Required - Proven experience managing - Strong herd management and pasture management knowledge. - Ability to lead, motivate, and support a small team. - Sound mechanical knowledge and ability to operate farm machinery. - Strong communication and problem-solving skills. - Excellent record-keeping and technology skills. - Commitment to health, safety, and environmental responsibility. We operate a 530ha dairy platform with a newly acquired 250ha support block 4kms away. We are in the process of increasing our dairy herd size to 1200 milking cows over the next 2 years. The dairy has a 70-bail rotary w/ACR's, MilkHub drafting, weighing, and feeding system and a new vet bail w/crush and scales. We are self-contained, running all our young stock on the support block. We are located 100kms south of Hokitika, 30kms north of Franz Josef, in the heart of a hunting, whitebaiting and outdoor adventure playground. We are seeking a highly motivated person wanting to progress in the industry, who has proven dairy farm management experience with top performance. The manager will be responsible for: - Overall running a 530ha dairy platform (500ha effective); - And 250ha support block 4kms away; - Overseeing ~6 staff; - Reporting to the Operations Manager on a regular schedule; - Rostering of staff days and duties; - Delegating farm tasks to other staff members; - Pasture Management; - Following a budget; - All Recording of herd and farm events.
