Calf Rearers - Spring 2026

We have 3 positions available for calf rearers near Rangiora. We have 1300 cows and rear 350 replacements in total over 2 farms. The focus is on attention to detail and healthy replacement and bobby calves as well as running an efficient calf rearing system. All roles require a strong, physically capable person able to handle calves. The farms are 1km from Rangiora. Accommodation is available for all positions if required. 1. Lead calf rearer – this person will be responsible for the calf rearing team and be involved with planning with the farm manager. This role requires proven experience with calf rearing and an ability to work with staff. The role is fulltime from late July to late September, and then hours reducing until all the calves are weaned in early December. 2. Calf rearing 2ic – this role will be to support the lead calf rearer and maintain high standards. This is a fulltime position from late July to late September. Some calf rearing experience preferred. 3. Assistant calf rearer. – this person will be physically capable and help with the peak of calving. No experience needed. About the Farm Motuiti Farms is a well-established, 10-year-old dairy farm with excellent calf-rearing infrastructure, including a 12-bay calf rearing shed located beside the milking shed. We are seeking an experienced milker & farmhand to assist with general farm duties and milking a 400 cow Friesian herd, in a 42 bale rotary milking shed with automatic cup removers. This is a full time position, and the roster is 12 days on, 2 days off (i.e every second weekend off). Morning milkings are usually between 4:30-7:30am and afternoons are usually between 2:00 – 4:30pm. Other farm duties you may be involved with will include general farm duties e.g: · Shifting cows & feeding · Fencing, weed control · Shed cleaning and set up · Identifying and alerting other staff/vet about sick animals You will be required to ride a quad bike, and drive the tractor. The farm contour is completely flat with well laid out paddocks, central races and all paddocks are irrigated to troughs. You must be able to work as part of a team and/or sole charge. There are 2 other full time workers (the farm manager and the farm owner). We are looking for an honest, hard working, experienced and reliable team player. We have a small, relaxed, flexible, family friendly team, with a drug free policy in our work place. There may be a possibility for on farm accommodation to be provided. Calf Rearer – 2026/2027 Season We’re looking for a reliable and motivated calf rearer for next season, starting around 29 June for approximately 3 months. This role would suit someone with calf rearing experience, however training can be provided for the right person. You’ll need to be confident handling young stock, able to work independently, and happy working outdoors through winter and early spring. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day care of calves. Around 270 calves will go through the sheds over the season, with 60–70 kept as replacements. Being organised, physically fit, and having a good eye for animal health and welfare is important, as you’ll be responsible for the calf shed and routines. We’re open to either one full-time person or two part-time people. Drive-in position. Must be able to drive a Quad bike. You will assist in the day to day running on a 420 cow 155ha farm in Pukehina. You will work alongside the contract milker and relief staff and occasionally the farm owner. About us: 32ashb with 2 people milking, OAD from Christmas. Our girls are nice and quiet in the shed. We have in shed feed and feed maize and grass silage out in the paddock. Farm is steep to rolling with some flats, we are close to the beach and forest, 45 minutes to Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua. Good school 10 minutes up the road and house is on school bus route. About you: Passionate about the dairy industry with a love for cows and their well being. Ability to detect lameness/mastitis and treat accordingly. Experience required as you will at times be left in charge while we are away, you need to be reliable and confident. Good time management with the ability to use initiative and prioritise tasks effectively. MUST be VERY competent in riding a 2wheeler on steep/hilly terrain. Experience driving tractor and various implements, eg wagon, trailer, mower.
