The farms comprise of 1000 cows and we have a casual relief milking position to cover staff leave etc. The farms have large modern milking facilities with 80 bail rotary platforms and are well equipped for the number of cows milked in them. We’re looking for an experienced, capable person (or couple) to join us across our two Westport farms. This is a hands-on role with a bit of everything – full-time calf rearing through spring, plus relief milking and tractor work across the season to cover days off across two farms. The setup: – 800 cow farm (60-bale rotary) – main base + calf rearing + tractor work – 300 cow farm (38 aside herringbone) – relief milking, feeding calves, feeding out – 3-bedroom house available 10 minutes from Westport township The role: – Full responsibility of calf rearing through spring – Relief milking to cover rostered days off – Feeding out and general farm jobs – Tractor work (cultivating, etc.) – Working across both farms as needed What we’re after: – Proven experience with calf rearing (confident running it solo) – Competent milker in both rotary and herringbone sheds – Comfortable on tractors and general machinery – Good time management – able to plan your day and get through the work – Easy to work with, respectful, and good with people We run tidy, well-structured farms and expect a high standard, but we also back our team and keep things fair. **Job Description** Calf Rearer/ Relief Milker Location: Puriri, New Zealand This position is covering a 12 week period starting end of July. Calving roughly 620 cows, and rearing approx 350/400. You will help with, feeding new calves, replacement calves, getting cows and calves in and milking when needed. Other duties include cleaning, feeding, using farm equipment, Identifying and attending to sick calves. Looking for someone reliable, punctual and honest. Experience preferred but not essential, and a good sense of humour is a must. $30 an hour. 5 days on 2 days off. Relief Milker / Fixed-Term Farm Assistant Location: Eltham, Taranaki Please note: This is a DRIVE IN role. Please do not apply if you are requiring accommodation. We are seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team of three on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave on our dairy farm located just outside Eltham, Taranaki. This is a drive-in, live-out position, working alongside the Contract Milker and 2IC. The farm milks approximately 500 MA cows through a 50-bail rotary with an in-shed feeding system and operates as a System 3 farm. We are a family-run farm and pride ourselves on being supportive employers and forward-thinking in our approach. Drive in relief milker required, located near Waianiwa (approx. 20mins from Invercargill, 20mins from Winton). Approx. 3-4 Milking’s a week at this stage. Flexible with days/dates. **Job Description** Autumn Calving Farm - We need an extra hand over our busy Calving-Mating season. Starting Early March and finishing late August (7 months). We have 480 Friesian cows to calve from 10 March- 20 May over 12 weeks. We are setting up a new automated calf feeding shed - which is still work in progress. The position will involve: - The whole calf rearing process from assisting collecting calves from paddock. - Feeding Colostrum for first 4-5 days. - Transitioning calves onto the autofeeders. - Mixing Milk powder (which requires lifting 25 kg bags). - Cleaning and washing down calf feeding area daily. - Feeding Meal and Straw to calves (25 kg meal bags). - Feeding calves in paddock, shifting calves to other paddocks. - Assist with Milking when other staff have days off. - Assist with post Milking Clean up. - Assist with other general farm duties when other staff have days off. You will need to have experience working on a dairy farm and completed a calving season (our Peak busy period will be 15 March -15 June). You will milking in 50 Bale rotary on your own when rostered on, so you must be confident to operate shed and detect mastitis. Hours Start 5:15 am finish 5:45 pm.
